Bottle Beach!

We are back in Bangkok for the afternoon today until we head to Cambodia to see "The Wat" as many tourists here call it or for those of you who are monumentally challenged - Ankgor Wat.

Lately, both Marc and I have been feeling a bit weary of traveling. (Yes we realize that for most of you at home that is hard to imagine but for the last little while we have felt very ready to go home and start "life" again.) However . . . all those feelings went away when we went to Bottle Beach. BB is a lovely secluded beach on the North Eastern side of Koh Phangan (the island with the famous/infamous? full moon parties.) The beach is only accessible by boat (or very bumpy unfinished roads as we found out yesterday) and is very secluded, with only 4 resorts.

We spent our days doing not much of anything except for eating, sleeping, swimming, laying in hammocks and reading.

As evidenced:
On our porch
The view from the porch

Sometimes we even moved from the porch and laid in the hammocks or swam on the beach. We did get a bit of exercise on the stairs on the way down!

There was a daily soccer game between the tourists and the employees from the resort.

The lovely view from the hammocks!

One of the days we actually moved off our butts and did the hour walk up to the view point. It was quite an adventure, involving passing through an improvised toll point policed by a pack of dogs (75 cents/person to not get eaten), scrambling up dangerous inclines to reach exposed viewpoints, and encountering a monitor lizard THE SIZE OF NIKO!!! (without his fur maybe, but still seriously huge and dinosauresque).

Today we have been exploring Bangkok a bit and I am blogging while Marc is getting a massage. He really likes Thai massage (not for me thanks!) and I am surfing the internet and drinking juice. We also just ran into someone we met in Chilliwack at the residency banquet last year who is now working in Bangkok. Crazy! Hopefully you will enjoy some high watage pictures soon!

Marc, did you pee your shorts at the lookout point at BB? It's okay, it happens to everyone once in a while! The beach looks great. Hope you enjoy the Wat!

Mmmm - bottle beach. I can just feel the time dissolving away. One morning you wake up and wonder what you possibly could have done for 7 days and then ponder why you really would ever need to leave. :) Is there still an Isreali guy living there? He had fully succumbed to bottle beach syndrome and set him self up quite nicely with some large batteries, wireless internet, tv, dvd player and play station. He had been there for several months and had no intention of leaving.
Your pictures are great by the way. I love the sight of that clear blue water.
