Have you ever taken in what seemed to be A LOT of bottles and just gotten like $4 or 5 for them? Not me today! I just took the bottles from our garage in and I got $67.20!!!! Wowzers. The bottles sure didn't seem like they would be worth that much just looking at them in our garage.
Also, take a look at how long my receipt is!
We're going out for dinner baby!

If you don't see me for a while, I'll be scouring the southern alberta ditches! See ya!
BTW nice bookshelf behind that there receipt!
some crazy blacklitman made it for us!
This is clearly another lesson that procrastinating pays off in the end. It pays $67.20 worth.
Thanks for the comment marc! I really enjoy your blog. Your pictures make me want to go hiking in Canada. I know, I'm in Thailand, why am I not hiking here. Unfortunately, this is the land of the prissy girls (and sometimes boys). I did, however, receive a nice skirt and necklace from a parent this week so I shouldn't complain.
Where is Elk Mountain?
Elk Mountain trailhead is about 20 minutes from our place and we can see it from our balcony! Kylie
hmmm...i think i'll quit my job and take up bottle collecting
score! that's so awesome...craig and I had all our bottles and cans under the stairs outside and when we got back from AB they were gone! Crapinoles is right.
As a newcomer to Ontario I've been baffled by what I've found in the blue box recycling. I've seen people putting cans and plastic bottles out on the street. I thought to myself, "egad! People are throwing away good money!" Turns out the only beverage containers that have a deposit on them are beer bottles and cans. Also, in PEI they don't have aluminum cans, only glass bottles. They decided that it would cut down on littering. I wonder if it worked? I'm quite disappointed that I won't have a nice little bit of extra money when I take the bottles in. However, its handy because in our apartment we don't have any place for them to go. So maybe its a blessing.
M+K,
Forget the Dr./Teacher schtick! You've struck gold with the bottles. I know a great place where you can start your new business up with $1 overhead*. It's called Costco. Get your boots and hit the streets, not everybody knows about this new enterprise where money practically jumps into your wallet!
*$2 Overhead if you both want a cart.
Saskatchewan will give you 10cents a can.
It might be worth the move!
You should publish the name and address of this bottle depot. I had a huge crapload of bottles etc a couple weeks ago and got $25 for it all. It was full of soy milk cartons which are worth 20 cents each, and I was expecting to cash out closer to $67.20. I know that working in a bottle depot has got to be the most undesirable job in the world, so I expect that the poor joe behind the counter is going to skimp a little off the top for himself, but not that much! And seriously, who can count 10 different kinds of containers that fast? Are these the hidden geniuses of our society? They don't write anything down, just FLING FLING FLING, "That comes to $25" And you got a receipt?! I've never gotten a receipt before.
Well Ty I must say that I did have over 800 bottles. A lot I know. The Volvo was filled to the brim! So it may have been the copious amounts of bottles that I had rather than the great rate at the depot. It is true that you usually don't get a receipt, this was my first one too!
Kylie
Hi Marc, that is amazing!
I wish I could have gotten that much for my bottles!
I'm no longer a pastor of a very conservative church now so MAYBE I could out do you .... I really like Rickards Honey Brown!
Anyway you have helped rekindle my faith that recycling does pay, hopefully for supper for my wife and I!
Danny
